Feature #178 Berta Katona ‘clearly determined moments.’

Berta Katona is a hungarian photographer and designer, living in Cologne, Germany. In the last few years she has changed her place to live several times and was traveling a lot. Meanwhile Berta started to do street and travel photography obsessively and working as a photographer. In 2010 she won first prize in the National Geographic Hungary Photo Contest in ‘traveling and culture’ category. Berta has been involved in group exhibition called In Transit in the European Months of Photography in Berlin. Last summer she took part in the Kontra exhibition in the Neukölln am meer, also in Berlin. she’s also participated in different courses and workshops.

Mostly Berta looks for the absurdity of the every day life. She loves pictures of clearly determined moments, like photo reportage, however the scenes come close to some soft surreal experience. The human mind is selective and tricky. The way we remember doesn’t reflect precisely the same image as it was in effect. The only substantiation that they were real for an instant is actually just the photo itself
