Gonzalo Castillo Bombardiere.Was a law student
(already working in a Clinic as legal adviser).
His dad gave to him his first film camera, a cheap Zenit, because as a
kid he always took his dads Pentax and of course his dad saw Gonzalos interest in taking photos. Now he wants to explore more and more about street photography.

Feature #78 Mark Wyatt “a deeper sense of ‘being there”

Most of Mark Wyatts photos in the ‘Street Photos 1980′ blog were shot around 1980 while wandering streets in cities like Paris, Calcutta, Istanbul, Kathmandu, and Florence. His images are displayed full-frame, un-cropped; they were all shot on 35mm film – the B/Ws mostly on Kodak Tri-X and some Plus-X, with either a Nikkormat FT2, an Asahi Pentax K1000, or a Nikon F2, and with either a 28mm, 50mm, 85mm or 200mm Fixed Focal Length lens. His more recent blog entries were shot primarily in China around 1995 with the the Nikon F2 and on Fujicolor 200, some on Tri-X. Lately, Mark has been shooting in digital, but is seriously considering returning to film, mostly because for some reason images shot on film seem to give a deeper sense of ‘being there’, even when scanned and printed digitally.

Feature #77 Astrid Schramek “everyday life is always the same.”

Living in Vienna/Austria, Astrid Schramek is a dedicated documentary photography (“street photography”) to simply show what’s going on. Is it the same as hundreds of years ago? External environments may change, and fashions pass: but everyday life is always the same. It’s like a standstill of time. It is this continuum of everyday life, Astrid wants to record in her pictures. To capture street impressions she works both with film and digital cameras, mainly with small cameras like Leica M7 and Fuji X100: to her the optimal condition to move freely and mostly unseen in the streets.

Feature #76 Jean-Marc Caracci “representation of belonging”

100% Sicilian heritage, Jean-Marc Caracci was born in Tunisia in 1958… but he has lived in south of France, Montpellier, since his little childhood. Self-taught photographer, Jean-Marc Caracci started using black room at the age of 15, with the help of his big brother who was an amateur photographer. When he was 20, he had the great opportunity to be the photographer of the regiment, where he made the army. He learnt a lot there how to photograph people, and his work started focusing on the Man… the Man as a representation of belonging, rarely as a social object. This constancy in his research is probably a way to identify himself, perhaps a way to compare himself with the others, let’s say a way to think about his quality of human being. His style is clearly inspired by photographers like Henri Cartier Bresson, Elliott Erwitt, Raymond Depardon and so on… but also by the American painter Edward Hopper. In 2000, after a long period of 10 years depression, while he quasi stopped photographing [although still making exhibitions], he first came back to Art by writing a novel : “Love and Chickpea Soup” [still not published]. In 2005, he left his job [controller in a highway company]… and started to think about being a full time artist. He imagined and realized [during 3 years] a big European project, “Homo Urbanus Europeanus”, which has been his first work as a reborn photographer.

Feature #75 Neal Hibert “There is no agenda if you don’t want one”

Neal Hibert is a 52 year old Street Photographer from Berkshire, UK. He first picked up a DSLR (Nikon D80) two years ago and started to get into photography. Neal went down the studio and models on location, lights action route and found it to rehearsed and posy, enjoyed it for w while but then it became so mundane. He then struggled for ages with what he wanted to do with his photography. Neal upgraded to a D700 and was still in a rut. After playing around with Macro (which I still love and practice), fast shutter speed stuff, food shots etc etc. His camera then just sat there along with all the expensive gear he had gone and bought, you know, Speed-lights, soft-boxes, stands, the whole works. Neal picked up his camera again several months ago and he hopes that he has found his ‘Happy Place’ in Street-Photography. Neal is still fairly new to it all and photography is only a hobby. Neal has really fell in love with shooting in the street. The reasons? There is no agenda if you don’t want one, no rules if you don’t want them, no boundaries, the street is your studio and everyone out there is a potential subject. Neal is not a ‘In you face’ street-photogrpaher, there are so many ways of getting the shot without actually shoving a lens up someones nose. He uses a variety of tactics to get his shot. The beauty of street is you just never know what is going to happen. Neal Hibert likes walking and anticipating moments, sometimes you just know that something is going to happen and the camera is always there, hopefully to capture it in full flow.

Feature #74 Hugo Kintzler “I’m a beginner but street photography accompanies me”

Hugo Kintzler is a 20 year old geography student in the university of Nancy (France). He became interested in photography 2 years ago with his first camera, a Panasonic Fz-28 bridge camera. Hugo took pictures of very different things but quickly became passionate about the urban world. Hugo comes from a small town in the Vosges and the photography accompanied him in his discovery of a bigger city. He spends a lot of time walking in the streets of Nancy to try to capture some snapshots of city life. He doesn’t care too much about the material but knew he needed to upgrade his gear. Hugo hope his next purchase will be an DSLR with prime lenses, Hugo said I’m a beginner but street photography accompanies me everywhere now.

Feature #73 Nima Taradji “the sense of disarray”

Nima Taradji has been doing Street Photography since he was a kid and when he saw photographs of William Klein in a local exhibit. Although law is what Nima does professionally, He is a photographer at heart no matter what and has been spending more and more time shooting than anything else! Nima likes to find the sense of disarray, lost in the crowd, and often time he likes to juxtapose the disconnect between a person and his or her environment…. and he likes to capture the moment in time and explore all the going ons in that moment — a moment that the camera sees but goes mostly unnoticed by the naked eye. Nima is currently working on capturing photos from the Occupy Chicago Movement and have been spending a lot of time with the protestors.

Feature #72 Kaan Cornelio “Ventured into street photography”

Kaan Cornelio is a 19 year old aspiring artist. She started photography as a hobby opting to take photos of nature and landscape before she ventured into street photography. It’s been four years since first began yet Kaan is still learning and growing as an artist. Since traveling is one of her favorite past time, Kaan has accumulated a fair amount of street photos. The architecture, the people.. They are works of art. Her goal as an amateur photographer is to spread the art that she has come to love and inspire others to follow suit.

Feature #71 Andrew Fok “Fortunate to discover street photography”

Andrew Fok is a overseas student traveling in between United Kingdom and Hong Kong, China. Sometimes he questions himself why he spends 3 or 4 hours in the streets and only come back with a few shots that he likes at the end. But the thing that continues to drive him is the being able to discover and re-discover about the world we live in. We are often so busy about our personal goals we need to complete, we miss the moments happening around us. Andrew is fortunate to discover street photography as it has been beneficial for his personal development. Whenever he came back to Hong Kong where his base is, he is surprised by how much he didn’t fully see or witness on the streets….having lived there for 12 years. Of course, Andrew is still very in-experienced after 6 months of shooting and still has much to learn. Also he really enjoys seeing the works by magnum photographers and many talented people on flickr.

Feature #70 Gene Lowinger “shooting film in 1985″

Gene Lowinger has been a musician his entire adult life. He started playing fiddle with Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys in 1965 and moved on to study classical violin and subsequently to play in the New York City freelance business. Gene began shooting film in 1985 on scuba diving trips and fell in love with photography. He worked as a freelance
photojournalist for a number of years before retiring. Gene continued to shoot musicians and street scenes. The University of Illinois Press published a book of his memoirs which included many photographs of bluegrass musicians. Gene Lowinger is currently working on a book project to publish his New York City street images.
